Ray Lamontagne New York Concert reviews
Cool venue, the only regrettable part was the show
The audio quality left a lot to be desired with the vocals often lost behind the instruments. As for the performance, our seats were center floor around 17 rows back and with the stage barely lit you’d be hard pressed to figure out whether Ray still has a beard. Repeated calls from the audience coupled words of encouragement with “take off your hat” and “we want to see you” throughout the show only to be ignored. Not the first show that I’ve seen that's fallen short of expectations but it is the first show I’ve walked out on. On the bright side it provided some time to tour a pretty cool venue.
Great venue & sound, not so great parking
The venue was great, ticket entry was easy via iPhone scan, the bar area and merchandise area were accessible and not too crowded. The hall itself was spacious and the seats comfortable. The sound was amazing - crisp, clear and enveloping. However, when Siena came out for her first backup for Ray, her mike was waaay to low. But they corrected that for her later appearances. Overall a great concert. Rays voice was amazing and the trio was great.
The only downside to the whole experience was parking. We prepaid for Lot D, but arrived later (skip the opening act and arrived at 07:30pm). But there were not attendants for Parking Lot D and no signs. The MET website was only had a map with no address, so we had to guess that the highlighted rectangular box on their low-res map was the same lot we ended up parking in. The e-ticket for parking had a row and seat # but didn’t correspond to parking designations. When we got to the venue we found the parking signs stacked up outside. So it looks like they left their post early. Really, a sign in the window of the empty attendee booth or hung on the fence would have sufficed.
Great performance
Ray is a very special artist. He just gets better all the time. (Our 4th time seeing Ray) He has the ability to touch your heart and soothe your soul through his music. It's hard to find the right words to express how special his music is. His singing was strong, clear and heartfelt. The personal stories he shared added to the overall experience. The two musicians who accompanied him did a great job. The MGM Music Hall at Fenway is a very nice venue with great acoustics, accessible facilities and a friendly helpful staff. The only downside was the rude outbursts, yelling, interruptions and constant talking of some audience members. People who want to drink and talk all night should go to a bar. Purchasing a ticket does not give you the right to do whatever you want. There is a difference between a right and a privilege. In my opinion buying a ticket allows you to have the privilege of sharing a common space and experience while being respectful of the performers and others who also purchased a ticket. It was definitely a privilege to see Ray LaMontagne perform. Great concert, as always!
